Welcome to 5th grade Math! I hope you had a great summer and you are ready for an outstanding 2016-2017 school year. My name is Mr. Sparks and I will be your child’s teacher. I love to teach math, encourage reading, and coach basketball. We are going to have an engaging, rigorous, and dynamic school year. We are also going to have fun while we learn. My expectations for your child are high. My theory is that if I believe in their abilities, they will believe also. One of my favorite quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” I will challenge your child to do their personal best. Our class will be full of adventure and new learning experiences.
Fifth grade is an exciting year. Your child will learn many new things in all of their subjects. I will be teaching Math and Social Studies to all of my homeroom students. Mrs. Johnson will be teaching English and Language Arts and Mr. Zertuche will be teaching Science to my homeroom students.
Homework is an important part of learning and it will be assigned Monday through Thursday. All students will be given an agenda. They Please monitor this agenda daily and check to ensure all assignments are complete. Homework gives your child the opportunity to practice the skills taught in class that day. Most of our daily communication will take place through this agenda, as well as any notes you may send to me. Please sign the agenda daily.
Newsletters and parent information will be sent home weekly on Thursday’s. Progress reports are issued every 3-4 weeks. Please register for Parent Portal. This will help you keep up with of your child’s academic process, so please register.
I am so excited to have you in my class and look forward to getting to know you throughout this school year!
